Summer BBQ

This is a great opportunity for choir members and partners to get together for some socialising and fun in the sun (fingers crossed!). We’re in a barn so you won’t need to bring a sun hat or lotion. Seating and tables are provided.

Our very own “Admin Lyn” Betteley is the primary organiser of this event, and has this to say:

“I know most of you have signed up to the Barby and listed what food you are bringing – Thankyou!

Some of you, however, may not even know about the Barby if you weren’t at choir in the few weeks leading up to our Concerts in June.  So for those of you who don’t, you are most warmly invited to come along on 18th August, around 3pm.  We usually start eating at around 3.30pm.

The BBQ is held in the Bluebell Barn (or just outside it if weather permits) at Bates Green Farm, (also known as The Bluebell Walk or Bates Green Garden)  Tye Hill Road, Arlington, near Polegate, BN26 6SH. Directions can be found on their website: https://batesgreengarden.co.uk/.  It’s a beautiful location and the owner John McCutchan also invites us to look around his wonderful gardens including his late wife Carolyn’s special garden designed by her.

The choir itself provides all the meat (and veggie options), and soft drinks (including tea and coffee) and we ask if you could please bring either a salad-type dish or a dessert of your choice. (Those who have already signed up have stated what they are bringing, but if anyone wants reminding, just give me a ring  and I’ll tell you! .)

If you would like to come but haven’t told us yet, please could you ring or text me if possible, just so that I can get the numbers right for buying the meat?  My number is:  07789 724586.  Or my landline at home is 01323 763273.

Really hope lots of you can come.  We have 54 at the moment, so the more the merrier.”

Eastbourne Carnival

We are SO lucky to have a float in the Carnival again this year!

Music and lyrics, extra to the medleys and items from our concert programme advised by Adrian, can be found HERE.

Last week Adrian mentioned that we would doing a few extra songs at the carnival to pick up on the theme ‘Into the wild’. The link above will give you access to the song sheets and tracks for:

  • The Lion Sleeps Tonight

  • Bare Necessities/King of the Swingers

  • I Just Can’t Wait to be King

Please note that we are not doing Africa as we couldn’t find a good version to sing to. If you are taking part at the carnival with Concentus, please print off the words (those that can) and take to time to have a sing through before the day. We are only expecting everyone to join in with the tune, which hopefully most of you will know for these well-known songs. We will be bringing a few sheets on the day for those that can’t print, so please let us know if you require a printed copy (and were not at rehearsal on Monday to indicate as such).

 1. Please make sure you have the correct version of Sussex By The Sea (as in the above folder), which is annotated as being my arrangement. Please can you kindly check your music and print off a copy as required. If you have anything different to the attached, then I'm afraid this is an incorrect version and must not be used.

2. We need to meet our lorry/float which will be parked at the East end of Royal Parade (the seafront road). Our lorry belongs to CJ Thorne and will be decorated under the banner of Children With Cancer Fund. We will also have one of our blue roadside concert banners either side of the lorry. The lead float is no1 and is sited opposite Fisherman's Green. Float numbers ascend thereafter going backwards towards the Sovereign Centre. We are Float no19.

3. Please arrive at our float by 12.30pm latest so that we are ready and singing when the judging starts at 1.00pm!

4. I have previously circulated our list of music to sing: the copies of which must be placed in your concert folders please.

5. Please can you all wear the brightest coloured tops that you have and ideally, anything that might look a bit 'African themed'  and similar to the lines of what we all wore for Zimbe!! Lower halfs of your choice please which is looking dressed for summer, i.e. light/bright coloured trousers/skirt/crops and shorts etc - all as best suits your personal taste! Think party-time!!!!!

Please wear sensible footwear, bearing in mind you are getting on/off the lorry! If anyone needs assistance in this, then of course we are all on hand to help in both getting on and off etc. As previous, there will be sufficient chairs so that those who wish, can be seated for the entire journey.

6. Parking is available on Five Acre field opposite the Sovereign Centre at the bottom end of Lottbridge Drove.

7. Welfare - Please ensure you bring music, hats, sun cream, drink, lunch, snacks, fleece, brolly/rainwear, all as the day and weather dictates!!!

8. The procession ends on King Edwards Parade around the Grand Hotel area. The lorry will then take those who wish back to the Sovereign Centre in order to collect cars etc.

I think that just about covers everything, but if any queries then please let me know.

As before, this is a really fun day out with a brilliant atmosphere, and we are extremely proud to once again be supporting the CWCF charity!

Looking forward to seeing those who are attending on the day.
