Celebration of Life for Val White

It is with great sadness that we need to share the news that Adrian’s mum Val passed away on 2nd August after a short illness. She was Concentus’ number one fan from day one and she never missed a concert from our very first one until ill health prevented it this year, much to her frustration. She was also a very good friend to many of the choir and her smiling face in the audience will be sorely missed. She was so very proud of Adrian’s achievements with the choir and was very clear that she would like Concentus to sing at her funeral, having been such a big part of her life for the last 20 years. Therefore, we hope as many of you as possible will be able to join in singing The Lord Bless You and Keep You, and we will be accompanied by the lovely John Ross - a familiar face from rehearsals and concerts past. Don’t worry if you don’t know it - we will put the parts and full version on the members area of the website in the next couple of days and there will be a rehearsal beforehand to learn/refresh our memories.

The arrangements are as follows:

Funeral

Friday 29th August, 10am

All Saints Chapel, Darley Road, Eastbourne. BN20 7GE

Dress code: summer uniform (scarves/ties available on the day)

Rehearsal

Monday 18th August, 7.30-9pm

Emmanuel Church, Upperton Road, Eastbourne. BN21 1LQ

The funeral will be followed by the burial at Seaford cemetery, and anyone who knew Val is welcome to join the family if you so wish. The family will then be returning to the Hydro hotel in Eastbourne for refreshments and a chance to chat and remember Val. Anyone not wishing to attend the burial is welcome to head straight to the Hydro to await the family’s return. Adrian and Jacky would be grateful for an idea of numbers to assist with catering plans.

Therefore, please can you let Sue D know by return of email or at the latest 14th August

  • If you are able to join us to sing at the funeral

  • If you are returning to the Hydro afterwards

Please do not hesitate to get in touch via email or WhatsApp Jo if you have any queries.

Summer BBQ

This is a great opportunity for choir members and partners to get together for some socialising and fun in the sun (fingers crossed!). We’re in a barn so you won’t need to bring a sun hat or lotion. Seating and tables are provided.

Our very own “Admin Lyn” Betteley is the primary organiser of this event, and has this to say:

“I know most of you have signed up to the Barby and listed what food you are bringing – Thankyou!

Some of you, however, may not even know about the Barby if you weren’t at choir in the few weeks leading up to our Concerts in June.  So for those of you who don’t, you are most warmly invited to come along on 18th August, around 3pm.  We usually start eating at around 3.30pm.

The BBQ is held in the Bluebell Barn (or just outside it if weather permits) at Bates Green Farm, (also known as The Bluebell Walk or Bates Green Garden)  Tye Hill Road, Arlington, near Polegate, BN26 6SH. Directions can be found on their website: https://batesgreengarden.co.uk/.  It’s a beautiful location and the owner John McCutchan also invites us to look around his wonderful gardens including his late wife Carolyn’s special garden designed by her.

The choir itself provides all the meat (and veggie options), and soft drinks (including tea and coffee) and we ask if you could please bring either a salad-type dish or a dessert of your choice. (Those who have already signed up have stated what they are bringing, but if anyone wants reminding, just give me a ring  and I’ll tell you! .)

If you would like to come but haven’t told us yet, please could you ring or text me if possible, just so that I can get the numbers right for buying the meat?  My number is:  07789 724586.  Or my landline at home is 01323 763273.

Really hope lots of you can come.  We have 54 at the moment, so the more the merrier.”
